Forensic Disability Support
Forensic Disability Support is specialised support provided through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for people with disability who are involved with, or at risk of involvement with, the criminal justice system. This includes people in custody, on remand, subject to court orders, on bail, parole, or community corrections orders, or under forensic orders.
Navigating the intersection of disability and the justice system brings unique challenges.
Our forensic disability support services are designed to provide skilled, compassionate support that respects your rights and dignity while addressing the complex needs that arise when disability and the justice system intersect.
Meliora Life provides Forensic Disability Support services throughout South East Queensland (Moreton Bay Regional, Ipswich City, Brisbane City, Logan City and Redland City).
How can Forensic Disability Support help me?
Meliora Life offers specialised forensic disability support with a deep understanding of both disability support frameworks and justice system processes. Our experienced team provides non-judgmental, rights-based support that recognises the importance of stability, consistency, and person-centred approaches in achieving positive outcomes.
We understand that people with disability are overrepresented in the justice system, often due to unmet support needs, lack of early intervention, and systemic barriers.
Our forensic support services address these gaps by providing skilled support that helps you maintain stability, meet any legal obligations, and work toward your goals.
At Meliora Life, our trained and experienced Forensic Support team can assist you with:
Transition support from custody to community: Planning and coordination to ensure you have appropriate housing, health services, and disability supports in place when you leave custody.
Support to comply with legal obligations: Assistance to meet the conditions of bail, parole, community correction orders, or forensic orders, while respecting your autonomy and preferences.
Specialised support coordination: Working with justice agencies, legal representatives, health services, and other providers to ensure all aspects of your support are coordinated effectively.
Daily living support: Assistance with personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, and developing routines that support your wellbeing and stability.
Behaviour support: Access to specialist behaviour support practitioners who can develop positive behaviour support plans that address behaviours of concern and reduce risk.
Community participation: Support to build connections, access community activities, develop skills, and participate meaningfully in your community.
Accommodation support: Help finding and maintaining suitable housing, including specialist disability accommodation where eligible and appropriate.
Health and wellbeing support: Coordination with mental health services, allied health providers, and medical professionals to ensure your health needs are met.
Advocacy and representation: Supporting you to understand your rights, navigate complex systems, and ensuring your voice is heard in legal and justice processes.
